The correct order matters
Many institutions require photo ID updated before they'll accept your name change. Follow this order to avoid blocked applications.
Execute a Deed Poll
Prepare and execute a Deed Poll signed in the presence of a witness. The Deed Poll formally declares your intention to abandon your old name and use your new name exclusively. It can be enrolled at the High Court for greater official recognition.
HKID Update — Immigration Department
Visit the Immigration Department with your enrolled Deed Poll to apply for a replacement Hong Kong Identity Card (HKID) in your new name. Appointment booking is recommended.
HKSAR Passport (if applicable)
If you hold an HKSAR passport, apply for a new one at the Immigration Department using your updated HKID and Deed Poll. Holders of foreign passports should contact their country's consulate or embassy.
Driving Licence — Transport Department
Apply for a replacement driving licence at the Transport Department with your updated HKID. The licence will be reissued in your new name.
MPF — Mandatory Provident Fund
